Business Ethics 301 Essay - 927 Words

TUI UNIVERSITY Module 2: Case Study, Should disabled veterans get preferential treatment over better qualified candidates who are not disabled veterans? Course Number: Ethics 301 Normally, when I have written papers in the past I have read the question asked of the professor and roll around the question in my head. I usually respond to the question with a â€Å"short answer†, which would be â€Å"no† or â€Å"long answer† which is â€Å"yes†, and then research the question further. I have done so with this question as well. My short answer is â€Å"no†. Why would a company hire a person with a disability, or someone without a disability, over a possible employee who is better qualified? After†¦show more content†¦Grades. Mrs. Value goes in to labor early. Dr Haynes does not perform a routine procedure correctly and the Value’s lose their precious child to negligence. Tell these parents who are grieving and lost their only child that the hospital did not hire the better qualified doctor. I realize this scenario is a bit far stretched. In my opinion I believe there are thousands of jobs in this country that DO hire the better qualified candidates who are disabled veterans. On merit alone, if I was a disabled veteran (of which I am) I certainly would want to be hired on merit. I would want to be the better qualified candidate for a position. As with government agencies, an employer may decide to give a veteran with a service- connected disability a preference in hiring. In fact, federal agencies may use specific rules and regulations, called â€Å"special hiring authorities,† to hire individuals with disabilities outside the normal competitive hiring process, and sometimes may even be required to give preferential treatment to veterans, including disabled veterans, in making hiring, promotion, or other employment decisions. The governme nt uses a point system for veterans and veterans with a disability. Candidates who compete for a job may be equally qualified but a government agency may use the point system that would give the disabled veteran the better chance of becoming hired for that position. Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell Of Arms

World War I, also known as the Great War, was a war of courage, glory, and selflessness. A Farewell to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers’ lives are turned upside-down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant Henry, when Hemingway was â€Å"serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals† (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems. Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purp ose of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric’s thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing innocent games with her. Catherine hints at the game, questioning if Fredric loved her. After he responds with a lie, Catherine catches him off guard by replying, â€Å"You don’t have to pretend to love me. Evaluation Of An Extraverted Feeler With Sensing Strengths

After taking the MBTI assessment, I learned that I am ESFJ, other wise known as an extraverted feeler with sensing strengths. Extraversion means people who tend to focus on the outer world of people and things. Sensing tends to focus on the present and concrete information. Feeling tends to be based primarily on values and on subjective evaluation of person-centered concerns. Finally, judging tend to like a planned and organized approach to like and prefer to have things settled. My dominant strength is feeling and being able to help other people. With feeling being my biggest strength, we are best when responsible for winning peoples cooperation with personal caring and practical help. By reading on ESFJ, I found out that I am sociable, orderly, opinioned, conscientious and realistic. All of these definitions fit my personality perfectly and really define who I am. An ESFJ has many amazing qualities and one of them is the ability to radiate sympathy. They tend to concern themselves with the people around them and value harmonious people. Being harmonious is really big for an ESFJ because they find value in other peoples opinions and feel everyone needs to be heard. They want to live in a harmonious life so avoid conflict.
